Is your Microsoft 365 data really backed up?

Is your Microsoft 365 data really backed up?

Many businesses assume that because their email and files are “in the cloud”, Microsoft is backing them up. Microsoft does keep its servers running and protected, but under its shared responsibility model, your data is your responsibility.

What can go wrong

  1. 1
    Accidental deletion
Deleted emails and files are only kept for a limited time, then they’re gone for good.
  2. 2
    Ransomware
If a computer gets infected, encrypted files can sync straight into OneDrive and SharePoint.
  3. 3
    Departing staff
Removing a user’s licence can eventually delete their mailbox and OneDrive.
  4. 4
    Malicious changes
A compromised account or an unhappy employee can delete or overwrite data on purpose.
Quick tip

A good backup is separate from Microsoft 365, runs automatically every day, and lets you restore a single email or an entire mailbox.
